Now that the rush is over...

what are you doing for yourself?
Yes, I said what are you doing for YOU? It's not being selfish to say I
need some "me time". You've done for everyone else in your life but so far you've
just ignored #1.
Go out for coffee, stand in the snow or howl at the moon. Take 15 minutes to do nothing but commune
with yourself at least once a day. Then put your game face on and get back to life.
It's the biggest gift to yourself that will keep you sane.

life and times of a fabricholic...

I confess...

I'm a fabricholic...

is there a FA meeting that I can attend.

HI, MY NAME IS RUTH

AND I'M A FABRICHOLIC...

I was supposed to go to the store for 2 or 3 pieces of fabric to fill an order, 4 hours and 3 bags later I'm hiding them from myself so I don't know what was purchased. OK, so the store was busy and I had to wait to have my fabric cut...but that was 3 different times. Then had to wait in line to check out.

But everything was on sale and I had a 40% off coupon is my excuse. I've been so good and have not gone nuts buying fabric lately because I don't have anymore room to store it. You know what this means, back to the sewing machine I go.

What gets you into trouble?

Hope ya'll are having a great weekend... the weather is beautiful after so much rain. Talk to you soon.

Look who we found last week when I was back home in Alabama. Meet "FOO", the one on the left that is, the big bird on the right is my hubby Scott. Foo is part of the flock that lives at my brothers home, and I do mean a flock. My brother and his wife run a bird rescue and santuary

gearing up for Christmas...

Can you believe it. We're already thinking about the Christmas season. In our shops, family and those many "things to do list" that we all have. Given that we all get so busy, I just wanted to say it....

Happy Halloween

Have a great Thanksgiving

And Merry Christmas

I know I've missed a lot of other hoildays in there but let me say also...

Happy Thanksgiving to our friends to the North

Happy Hanukkah

And a Happy Kwanzaa

that being said I thought I would give you some tips to make the most out of your busy season.

1. Don't take yourself so seriously

2. Get over your anger and frustration by eating some chocolate.

3. Give your friends some of that same chocolate-add a note about something funny.

4. Set some limits to how much frustration you will take daily---30 minutes to 1 hour is good, then go have some chocolate.

Are we seeing a theme here. Chocolate, the 5th food group. As I was posting some holiday pieces to etsy I was searching for some because I was having a lot of trouble with my computer last night. Didn't find any (so you know what is on the top of my grocery list) that I really wanted to eat, only found some stale cookies that HAD to share with hubby.
What are some of your tips to get through the holidays? I'd love to hear them.
Sorry for being offline this week, talk to you soon.

thought I'd disappeared did you...

This has been a real busy week for me. A lot of

work to get done, both at my day job and for

"faire wings and pixie dust"

I needed to do a little of this and a whole lot of everything else. As you can see I've got a little show and tell with what has been keeping me busy.
Embroidered
set of 5 lace buttons in pink. Just larger than a quarter. Since we have those CPSIA laws going into effect I needed to find something to replace the buttons. I thought this was a start but I really need to find some that are a little smaller. I found them at a great wedsite called, www.cuteembroidey.com. In making my Princesses in Pink Pillowcase top and diaper cover I got a chance to use them. The above outfit is a 24 mth old size and can be worn year round.
Now to think what I'm going to do with all those lovely buttons that I have collected for years and I do mean years. Some my mother gave me from clothing that I remember her wearing as I was growing up. Talk about recycling, they knew what it meant to use everything again and again.
Well I need to get dressed for another action packed day at work. Oh, like I haven't already gotten started on my next project this morning.
Just wanted to stay in touch...Ya'll have a good day.

Milly Mouse's Halloween

Meet Milly...she lives in the pumpkin down the road. With fall coming she's thinking of not renewing her lease on this great one room home. See... someone already painted a face on the front door.
This is a Cherokee onsie that will fit a 18 to 24 mth old. Milly has been machine embroidered on the chest. I've added a little ruffle a little off the waist to give it a dress look.
I guess I better stop and find something for dinner tonight.

if my head...

Well, if my head wasn't attached... I'm usually very careful about where I leave my keys now a days, because I would lose them so often. You guessed it, lost them again. Just spent 45 minutes looking for them.
Please don't tell hubby...he swears he's going to get me a clapper for my keys.

Do you lose things, too. What?

Ruth

P. S. I'll get back to business later today, got to find another place to hide my keys when I come back from the post office.

this is scary!!!

Hi guys,
I've got the second site up, kinda scary, but exciting. My third site will only be for supplies, which I have a lot of. Since I'm featuring more of a clothing line all the other things not in use will go up for sale. I do have patterns listed on my main site but not for much longer.
Huey G will remain small right now while I build some more stock but look out. Things that will listed are
  • bows
  • headbands
  • ornaments
  • shoes n booties
  • patches
  • and anything else

Just watch out. Does this mean I have to quit my day job?

Good Saturday Morning...

Good morning,

It's a beautiful morning here in Plano. Sun's out, not to hot, not to cool. I'm setting outside a little this morning reading when I get a call from hubby saying look north. Asking what I need to look for he says you'll see. Well I did see. Coming up over the house tops is a low flying ballon heading in my direction. Suddenly it disappears and I'm wondering where it went. The ballon had turned east and was getting lower and lower. Didn't want to miss the chance, went and got my camara, started taking shots of the ballon when it reappeared, as it landed behind the strip center across the way.
Ok, you caught me. I'm practicing placing photos on the page. Still don't have the hang of it but I'm sure I'll get it with A LOT of trial and error. Subject was fun and not something I see to often.
When you place pictures, do you load them first then write around them? Need some hints.
go get you some coffee...

hubby brought home dinner...

Well I didn't have to fix dinner tonight, my hubby brought home dinner for us. Wasn't that nice of him. Ruth

it's Friday and what am I going to fix for dinner...

I really should be doing something else today but I've been enjoying reading all the blogs showing up on etsy this morning.

After looking at all those great blogs I see that mine needs a lot of work. What's the old saying
"one bite (byte) at a time". Some of the things I'm seeing is all those add on ideas, giveaways and just great info.

Gotta scoot, I have a conference call to take (thought I was on vacation) in a few minutes.

it's Friday and what am I going to fix for dinner...

and what did you do on your vacation...

I know that is the question I will get next week when I go back to work. Well... I've done plenty this week. Clean the house, shop for food, go to lunch with friends and dinner with Scott a couple of times this week. But the main focus this week was to get myself in gear and get things made for my store on etsy.

I wanted to try out a few new designs that has been on my mind for a while. Like lace ornaments for Christmas. I've done the machine embroidery for 4 differnet ones; angels, balls, star and snowmen, but finished the hand sewing on the angels last night. That's what is shown in the pic's. Now to decide which of my sites I'm going to put them on. The angel I've actually been able to make a smaller size, so we'll see.

I've gotten another Halloween Pillowcase Dress made that is a layered twirl in orange and black. The dress is 100% cotton in all our favorite patterns. Pumpkin and ghost, moon and stars, candy corn and the ever favorite bats. I've used 5 different patterns for this dress and the most fun is the lace buttons that I made from cute embroidery.com. I was amazed as how pretty they turned out. With the new laws going into effect in Feb 2010 I needed to come up with something to replace all those buttons that I use on my projects.
Well I'm still playing and learning how to do the blog thing so stay tuned.
Ruth

Wednesday, September 23, 2009

Hello all,

Just taking a few moments off to get on the computer to see what is going on. Today I have been working on embroidered lace for Christmas ornaments. So far I have made angels, bells, stars and balls. There in the starch bath right now, I'll take them out and lay them out flat to dry in a couple of hours.

I'll be adding some fall playsets to my etsy sight later tonight. Maybe tomorrow I'll add some Christmas things.
See I've already got a start with the picture to the right.

a little bio

Hello, my custom clothing for children sell under the name "fairie wings and pixie dust". I have been sewing for many years and have enjoyed sewing and creating in many different forms. Clothing for children is now what I focus on but have made and sold products for the home as well as the toybox. I do take custom orders, so please don't hesitate to contact me for a special order.I do have a full time job that I fully enjoy but as with most folks, look for a creative avenue to "just make me happy". Just being in a fabric store makes me feel like I'm in a candy store.
Thanks for reading and getting to know me.
We've just recently moved from Houston to Plano and I'm still unpacking those millions of boxes that followed us up here and have decided to downsize my inventory. So look often as I will be selling a lot of different sewing supplies.

Just to get started

Hello all,

This is new to me so be patient. I'm trying to make a place I can be creative but also make my mark in the industry. What industry? Custom clothing for children. Stay tuned to what show's up in the new little while.
